Family Room Update

Our family room is in need of some love.  The area rug and pillows are old. And the colors are dated.   Fortunately, our Pottery Barn couch and chairs are neutral and a give me a good base for updating the room.

I dug out some  yellow napkins that I hope to make into a pillow.  And I brought one of the doors in from the garage and propped it in the corner.  I like the added height and color that it adds to the room.  But Dan is a bit iffy about the door.   We’ll see if he can get used to it because I kind of like it!

And today I picked up a new are rug.  It’s really light so I’m hoping we don’t regret that decision {as we have two small kids who drag in a bit of everything on their shoes…}

I think the room is coming together.

What do you think?  Should the door stay in the room? Or go back out to the garage?

  1. LOVE IT.

  2. I love the door!
    But that coming from a lady that has a chalk board door and shutters against the walls in her house 🙂
    Love your blog my dear!

  3. Love it, but my hubby would be iffy about something like that as well. I also LOVE the color of the door. 🙂

  4. I love it! It looks fab. If you’re really worried about the carpet, you could always grab a couple of cans of scotchguard and spray it. The spills and marks should just wipe up!

    The door adds architectural and visual interest. It is not in the walkway or taking up room so it and the wreath should stay. With it not being permanent it can easily be removed whenever you want.

  6. I like the door, and after being in a consignment store yesterday that had a door with minions and a mirror behind them (I thought it was a window hung up, never saw a door like that), hubs is coming around. Hope yours will. I also like the rug, I was too chicken when we had small kids and then got a pastel aubusson area rug for a steal when they were older but we had dogs, they were the worst stain makers! Good luck with your very nice room. Janet

  12. Love the door. My husband has a huge thick old door with a glass inset out in the garage. It truly is so thick we can’t hang it In any door frame. I’m bringing it inside tomorrow. thanks for the inspiration.
