Favorite Things…Chalkboard Pens

Writing on a chalkboard can be messy.  Chalk dust gets everywhere.  And the letters sometimes smudge if your hand lays on the writing.

The solution? A chalkboard pen!

I just recently purchased my first chalkboard pen. Maybe I’m slow to be on board with these….but I love them!

The precision that you can achieve with a chalkboard pen is much greater than with regular chalk.  Dear Lilly created this on her chalkboard.  Surely she used a chalkboard pen!

I have the pen, and I have several chalkboards… now I just need to practice {and practice and practice and practice} my handwriting so I can create something as beautiful as Dear Lillie.

I recently purchased this cute caddy from Target’s new Threshold collection, and was was able to try out my pen.

Writing with it was so simple! And when I made a mistake, a wet paper towel cleaned if off in no time!

I can’t wait to try my pen out on other chalk boards! And maybe one of these days, I will have mastered some fancy writing to create a piece of art like Dear Lilly!

  1. I’m working on my chalkboard pen handwriting too! I don’t think it will ever look like Dear Lillie’s though…unless I use a stencil.

  2. Well, if you are slow on getting on board (nice pun) with the pen, than I am really slow since I didn’t even know one existed. Thanks for the tip (again nice pun), I’ll be looking into this for sure!

  3. Thanks for letting us know about this product…I have never seen it before!

  6. Hi there!
I am a big fan of chalk markers myself – I’ve done a couple of posts about them. I use a different brand though –
I’m curious – have you used them on a “self made” chalk board? My biggest chalk surface is my chalk wall in my kitchen but I’ve never used the markers there. I just assumed that they would stain the surface – or take too much scrubbing to come clean. The wall is painted with Rustoleum chalkboard paint. . . what do you think?

  7. Once you write on a chalk board using the chalk marker, does it come off again?!

    • If you ‘cure’ the chalkboard with chalk (rubbing chalk all over it and then wiping it off with a dry cloth), this greatly decreases the shadow left from a chalkboard pen. I have experienced some shadows from it, but it’s not an overwhelming amount. And once you put your new image or wording on the chalkboard, it’s even less noticeable.

      Hope that helps!
