Powder Room Update – One Room Challenge Week 1

So the big day is here! I get to announce my next One Room Challenge project!  As you can see by my blog post title, I’ll be tackling my downstairs powder room.

I feel like there is so much that I’d like to update here at my house.  But instead of feeling overwhelmed by the many projects, I decided to tackle a small room! Something do-able.

Over the next six weeks I’ll get to share my progress with you!  And I’ll also be linking my project up with Linda’s blog, Calling it Home.

Let’s start with the original ‘BEFORE’ picture from 8 years ago.  As in ‘before we bought our house’.

Wallpaper galore.

After the house was ours, I got to steaming those walls and tearing down wallpaper asap.  I’m not sure how I accomplished this task…. Jack was 3 years old, Emmie was a crawling 8 month old and Dan was up to his eyeballs in working crazy shifts at the hospital. But I got to work and got the project done!

I painted the walls yellow and gave it my own personal touch.  Now fast forward 7 or so years… and I’m ready for a change.

Here with what the bathroom looks like today.

In the above picture, you can see the reflection the curio cabinet in the mirror….

This bathroom is fairly good sized, so most mornings, there are several of us brushing our teeth in here.  The cabinet houses tootbrushes, toothpaste, brushes….all of those last minute morning utensils! So it too will get a small facelift!

And now for some inspiration!  I wasn’t sure which direction I wanted to take this bathroom…I just knew that I was tired of the yellow.

After searching online for some inspiration, I threw together a rough design board to get myself moving in the right direction.

The walls will be very neutral.  Maybe white….or maybe not….but something light.
The cabinet will stay the same.  The mirror will likely return to its original color – gold!  I’ll also be hanging some new shelves and purchasing a new rug as well.  I suppose I could do this bathroom in less than six weeks, but I’ll stretch it out for the fun of the challenge.

Stay tuned for next weeks update!
