My House Right Now – between holidays

When we got back from Maui, I packed up my fall decor.  I know…party pooper. Since I had to get the bins down to put Halloween away, I put all the fall decor away too.  So her I sit…between holidays.

Here is a quick glimpse at a few corners of my house that I’ve made do with what I have laying around.

A maple leaf branch found it’s way to my kitchen window {and while it only lasted a few short days, it was sure pretty!}.

I wasn’t crazy about my fall mantel decor {which is why you never saw it posted on my blog}.  I cleared it off, and love it so much more now!

{Dan wasn’t sure about the empty frame, but I assured him it was ok.}

One of my favorite places to decorate is the back of the toilet.  Books and a plant. So simple and yet perfect!

And here is a corner of my family room.

While I was up in the attic putting fall decor away, I couldn’t resist bringing down this great print.  It’s the only Christmas item I brought down. So it sits among the gourds that I’ve yet to throw away.

I’m not sure how much longer I can wait to decorate for Christmas! I may have to dig the bins down this weekend.

One Room Challenge – Week 1

I mentioned yesterday that I am participating in the One Room Challenge {ORC} hosted by Calling it Home.  This is a 6 week challenge to makeover a room.  There are no winners. Just bloggers sharing their progress.

So today I get to share with you which room I’m making over!

Any guesses?

If you follow me on instagram, you will know I’ve been SLOWLY working on Emmie’s room. {You could argue that I got a head start on my one room challenge….but I haven’t blogged about it yet. So I’m hoping that counts! My goal now is to FINISH the room during these next 6 weeks.}

Here are a few before pictures:

The pink walls will be painted {ahem….or already have been painted!} gray.

And here is an inspiration board for the direction that I am headed with her room:

I’ve been building the bed for, well, um, years now!?  But it’s almost done. I swear.  So you will most certainly be hearing more about that bed!  And several of the accessories have been purchased as well.

So make sure to come back each week to follow my progress! And in 6 weeks, you can see the finished product! {Did I hear an “AMEN” coming from my husband?!}

Design Camp Overview

I realize I’m a bit late with my overview of Design Camp.  But my old computer was maxed out and didn’t have space to upload pictures.  So now that I have my new Mac, I’m back in business!!

Design Camp was unbelievable.  Full of information and an amazing lineup of speakers!

But let’s start at the beginning…..the hotel.

design camp alexis hotel

We stayed at the Alexis Hotel in downtown Seattle.  For the first few minutes at the hotel, I had a bit of guilt….

…because this was all mine for two days!

hotel 4

And it was a huge hotel room.  Once I took a look around, I got over my guilt and started to enjoy myself!

They even supply you with an animal print bathrobe!

hotel 2

And don’t you love these brick walls!?

hotel 3

Ok, enough of the hotel.  On to the people.

This was the first conference I attended without my trusty sidekicks, Lori and Amanda.  But thankfully, I had a few local blog friends that I hadn’t met in person.

Meeting Stacey Steward from Steward of Design {on the left} and Maggie Morgan of Maggie Rose Interiors {on the right} was so  much fun!

And I had the opportunity to meet other great designer from across the US, like Molly Quinn from Louisiana.

Molly and I met the first evening in the hotel lobby and enjoyed hanging out during the entire conference.

And now onto the speakers…..

Design Camp was put on by Lori Dennis and Kelli Ellis.  Both of these ladies are incredibly talented designers….

…and so down to earth!

They brought with them an amazing line up of speakers.

Nathan Turner {from Million Dollar Decorators} spoke on his journey to success.

Ronda Rice Carman from All the Best spoke about her journey to being published.

Cassandra Lavalle {Coco+Kelley} is a successful blogger from Seattle.  She spoke on creating and maintaining a successful blog.

But I think the most information and inspirational speaker {for me} was Kimberley Seldon.

kimberlery seldon

Kimberley spoke on the business of design. She challenged each and every designer to charge what they are worth. And to not apologize for it! Not only was she encouraging and challenging to the novice and experienced designer, but she was funny as can be!

The conference was filled with so much incredible information.  If you ever have the opportunity to attend a Design Camp, DO IT! You won’t regret it for a single minute.

Thank you, thank you to Lori Dennis and Kelli Ellis. You outdid yourselves.

A New Computer

My laptop is old.  I believe it’s 5 years old.  And in computer life, that’s old!  It’s slow and has a hard time keeping up.  So, it was time for an upgrade.

Dan was off one day this week so we headed to the Mac store to do some research.  And while we didn’t come home with a new computer, we placed an order for one!!

This is similar to the one that should be heading my way in the next few days {I hope!}.

We are a Mac family.   We drank the kool-aid and are convinced that Apple has the best products out there.

While I’m looking forward to my newer and faster computer, I hate that I’ll be without it for a day or two while all of my data is transferred over.

While I’m enjoying a computer free day, you should check out my social media pages!

Design Bloggers Conference 2013

I just got back from four days in California at the Design Bloggers Conference.

photo

I have lots of unpacking to do…clothes to wash, design magazines to look through, photo’s to load on my computer {which, by the way, is giving me some issues}.

I hope to have a few more pictures and a quick recap for you over the next day or two!

So stay tuned….

A Week in Pictures

Here are a few Instagram snapshots of my past week.

Now that the kids are both in school all day, I can hit the pavement and get some runs in…alone! No one riding beside me on a bike.  Just me, my headphones and a sweaty run ahead of me!

I’ve been working my tail off lately, getting in shape. Making better food choices and making sure I get some excercise in.  And as a benefit to all that work, I’ve been enjoying wearing a belt!   These orange cords {which look super neon in the photo. Hopefully they aren’t that bright in person!} are one of my favorite purchases this fall.  The cords and sweatshirt are both from the Gap.

Dan was gone on Saturday so I took the kids to see Hotel Transylvania.  We all enjoyed the movie. {Looks like someone’s fingernails – ahem, me! – need attention!  Maybe I should have squeezed in a manicure too!}

Here’s another fun outfit, with a belt!

Shirt  {Old Navy}, Pants {Loft}, Belt {Gap}, Watch {Nordstrom BP}, Necklace {Target}

And lastly, some pumpkins that my mom grew. Aren’t they fun!

I love this time of year.
